Do you believe being a 40+ year old busy person will limit you from succeeding in affiliate marketing?
Affiliate Marketing for busy people over 40 CAN add 3,4,5,6+ figures to their accounts by simply referring others to a product they don’t even own!
Hi my Name’s Michael and I’ll be your chauffeur(or tour guide) through this article as I show you the REAL uncut world of affiliate marketing and how you(or someone you know) shouldn’t hold themselves to an age restriction when it comes to doing well in this field.
The common myth is that if you’re “too busy” or “I’m a certain age” is a factor in the equation if you want to change lives and make solid money but it’s NOT true. Don’t hold yourself back because you’re older then someone like myself who’s a Youngy from generation Y…
Rather put your subconscious mind in the ONE question you need to be asking yourself:
“How can I earn the skills to make money in Affiliate Marketing?”
By the way, I wrote an-in-depth article about How you can make a living in affiliate marketing here you can check out.
Let’s get started!
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Simply stated, affiliate marketing is promoting a product or products that you do not own or do and placing them in front of an audience that is WILLING to purchase from you.Once they click on what’s called an “affiliate link” of that product provided to your from the retailer and these people make a purchase, you make the commission.

Stay Productive Not Busy
A question I get asked by people I mentor is “Michael, how can I get so much done like you?”
The answer is simple, I spend 20% of my time focusing on the 80% that will drive me results. In other words, I focus in on the things that will help me make the most impact and drive me sales, and limit all other distractions.
Once I understand that 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch, Then I can zone in and become productive. Being “Busy” doesn’t get things done, it just means you’re doing so many things without an end goal in mind and it doesn’t lead anywhere, kind of like running errands, answering phones, typing on the computer for no reason…
You’re JUST being busy. Now productiveness on the other hand is focusing on a goal in mind like:
- Writing for 30 minutes
- Producing 3 videos in 3 days for 10 minutes in length
- Creating content for your Facebook Group
See the difference?
On one side you’re just filling up time(busy) and on the other you have an end goal in mind that will produce you the results you need(productivity).
So whatever age you are, 10,20,30,40,50,60+, it doesn’t matter, as long as you can space out some time in your day to stay productive and get things done.
All you really need are 2-3 hours of productivity each day focusing on the majority that will provide you with your results much faster. That’s what I do on a daily basis…
Well at first it was 8+ because I had the time. My company released 20+ people(involuntary) and I had the time to devote to affiliate marketing, going on unemployment once again and taking the time to blog from home.
Best Way To Get Started
Listen, there are SO many places you can get started in affiliate marketing but you have to be careful, what do I mean?
For one, you don’t want to follow every YouTuber or Blogger and after awhile of watching fall into the trap that you need their $997 course or one time fee of $500 and you find out it’s a bunch of crap or it wasn’t what you were looking for…
This is a DEADLY TRAP. So many people fall victims to scammy courses, “gurus”, mentors who don’t know a thing about earning, and those that even do help you, eventually have to much to do for themselves they can’t be there for you when you need it most!
Althought watching YouTube videos, and reading blogs are a good place to start(like I did many years ago), it’s not sustainable, you just get everything from the beginning and the end, not the chunk in the middle. So here’s where you should start…
I partnered with the BEST(and I’m not being biased, I did an unbiased review here of the program), where it’s beginner and expert friendly and has over 1,400,000 members. Oh yeah, they are Free to join to!
It’s called Wealthy Affiliate. With Wealthy Affiliate you’ll learn how to build a website with content.
STEP 1: The customer does their online research on search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.
People in your chosen niche audience will find you by simply doing a search online like Google and you can pop up on the first page of Google so you can get more traffic(people) which means more sales!
STEP 2: People land on your site
After people have research for answers to their problem(s), they will then select a website to enter, hence yours. They will then read your content that you will put on a post/page so that it ranks on Google and once people read, they can take the next action, which is a purchase!
STEP 3: People go to Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc.
As someone's reading your content they will come across your "affiliate link", press on it and then they get taken over to the retailer so they can make their purchase, and you get the commission!
STEP 4:You make the money
At last, you make your cut of the commissions by simply referring people over to these different affiliate retailers and you get paid.
Why not just use social media?
BRAKE! I always get asked, “Hey, why not just social media?” Well, here are my answers:
- Social Media is not your asset
- Your content only last for a short period
- You’re costs will become much higher
A website is like your real estate, you own it, you can rent it, and you get to decide where to put your listings and get people to come to you, as opposed to social media where you have to constantly be posting in order to get engagement, a loyal following, and those sales you want.
Also, it’s likely you’ll become “baited” into free courses that then up-sell you on a $7, then a $37, then a $397, and well you know where this is going…
All meanwhile, everyone else is crushing it with their website, getting people to search for them.
